Treating people right… it’s good business

SOUTH WEST LONDON — I was talking to a senior HR person at a client’s conference this week. She was asking about Able and How. I started explaining our HR set up. And she was quite surprised.

“Wow. You do all that for such a small company?! That’s remarkable.”

And I guess she’s right.

We try not to be boastful, but today it feels like maybe I should give it a try. I have just opened up and been through our new online benefits and holiday management system. All our policies are uploaded. Each person has access to their own personal data… on their pensions… their dental care… their various insurances… dependant information… We have more benefits on offer than any company I have worked at, except maybe Towers Perrin.

And for a company that is still quite small — we’re not yet 5 months old! — that’s quite a remarkable thing.

Our view is that we don’t have to do these things, but why would you not?

We hire only really exceptional people and we want them to receive the best support that they can.

I know that’s maybe not cool in the old world, but maybe it will be cool in the new?
