HYDE PARK CORNER — When you work in the communication and change business you can have quite a few existential conversations with yourself.
What is the value of what I do?
If you work in brewery or sell coffee, you can put a value on it. If you are a Doctor or an Accountant it’s something people seem to recognise the value of.
Change management is different. Sometimes it is impossible to prove that you’ll make it better than it would have been otherwise.
So, I have decided this morning that the answer is £300 million.
That sounds good, doesn’t it? It’s the kind of figure that any company or person would like to save. Yes, even for the worlds biggest companies or richest people, £300 million is a good, big number.
Where did it come from? Did I just make it up?
No, of course not. That would be wrong.
£300 million is the amount of money that royal family of Saudi Arabia can hope to bank when they sell their lovely Hyde Park-facing dwelling.
It will be a record for a single dwelling in the UK.
And why will they be banking £300 million? Because they have had the courage to make a change.
So, that’s the new answer.
What’s the value of change management?
Give or take…
P.S. I can save you some time. I asked. It’ll cost you £2,500 just to get a brochure of the house. Change comes at a cost.
