Change Strategy

Organisations often believe that reaching a business decision – be it to implement a new IT system, standardise operational processes, improve employee engagement or even acquire a new business – is the hardest part.  Because implementation is the easy bit, right?

Why then do 70% of change programmes fail?

So often, ‘how’ we implement is as important as ‘what’ we are changing.

Here are some of the challenges our clients face:

  • Approach – we need to agree with the top management team how we want to go about implementing change. This needs to go as far as confirming leaders’ roles.
  • Positioning – we cannot proceed until the top management team is aligned behind how we position the change. But we can’t afford to suggest this requires going back and revisiting old executive decisions.
  • Readiness assessment – we don’t know where we can expect resistance. We also don’t know who will help with the implementation, or how well they are equipped in that role.
  • Stakeholder management – beyond the obvious stakeholders, who are the key individuals and audiences whose support we cannot do without? And what do they need from us?
  • Planning – our project is creating a gravitational pull for lots of other things. It is becoming increasingly difficult to manage what does and doesn’t fall within this scope.

Able and How specialises in supporting our clients from an early stage by designing the best strategic approach for implementation, and assessing the organisation’s readiness.

We design and facilitate senior executive workshops. We run diagnostic processes to help design the best approach. We create strategic plans to map phases and integrate workstreams with ‘business as usual’ milestones.
