Here’s another nice one that appeared today. Although, in fairness, it is written by one of the guys dad used to really rate in Canadian business writing.

Like any author, I found some fairly brutal rejection letters in my father’s things. So this posthumous success of his only published book is in keeping with his sense of humour.

Thanks. He never made it to the UAE. But, in his day, I am sure he would have taken it in stride. The enthusiasm with which he used to talk about Africa and African politics around the dinner table has shaped the way I have always seen the work I have done in the Middle East. If you become a student of a place everything you learn is exciting.

Hi David –
Hope all is ticking along in London?
Just a quick note to say that I was in Abu Dhabi 2 weeks ago, in the newsroom of The National – which is staffed by more than its fair share of Canadian writers because the founding editor is Martin Newland, ex-Telegraph who also founded the National Post for Conrad B – and your Dad’s name came up. Peter Cooney and Ray Beauchemin – both once Gazette men – were saying very lovely things about your Dad – in the context of colleague, boss and friend. It took about a week for the news to filter here apparently. But Jim Ferrabee was remembered, and fondly.
You were in S.Carolina at the time and I have been meaning to drop you a line about it ever since.
